YPF strikes gas in Mendoza province

Argentina national oil company YPF has made a discovery of tight gas in the western Argentine province of Mendoza, according to reports

The 125,000 square kilometres field is around 200 kilometres to the south of the city of Malargüe

The find at the Paso de las Bardas Norte xp-37 exploration well has a potential 25 million barrels equivalent of recoverable resources, the company said in a statement. There was also "important potential" for oil, it added.

The Bardas Norte well reached a depth of 2784 metres.

The 125,000 square kilometres field is around 200 kilometres to the south of the city of Malargüe. YPF hold total rights over the field.
