Schlumberger unveils new drilling fluid system

Global supplier of oil and gas equipment, Schlumberger has released a new drilling fluid system to maintain stable rheologies and thin filter cake to ensure quality reservoir characterization.
Schlumberger subsidiary and systems and technology provider, M-I SWACO has unveiled RHADIANT, an ultra-high temperature non-aqueous drilling fluid system, Schlumberger announced in a press release on Tuesday.
RHADIANT answers the need for improved performance in well construction and openhole logging, Schlumberger said.
The system maintains stability even in prolonged static extreme-temperature conditions, according to the firm, as well as eliminating drilling fluid product degradation, preventing wellbore control issues such as barite sag and providing a thin filter cake which enhances logging conditions.
These characteristics, said Schlumberger, “enable accurate perforation placement, optimized completions and quality reservoir characterization”.
“With wellbores approaching the 260°C threshold, there is a need for a drilling fluid that can remain stable and deliver consistent performance throughout the processes of well construction and openhole logging,” said Joe Bacho, president of M-I SWACO.
