New jack-up rig sets sail to India

UAE engineering firm Lamprell has delivered the newbuild jack-up Greatdrill Chaaya to Indian Greatship Global Energy Services. The unit will be operated by energy major ONGC in India’s offshore water.
The rig left Lamprell’s Hamriyah facility in Dubai last month for a drilling location offshore India, the company said in a press release, where it will be operated by state-owned ONGC.
The Greatdrill Chaaya cyber rig is a Leg Cantilever type jack-up rig with 15,000 psi pressure rating and designed for water depths of up to approximately 107 metres. The rig weighs 11,457 tonnes and has a self-elevating 145 m leg system.
The UAE engineering firm effected modifications to the rig’s spud can design to reduce the soil bearing pressure expected at the offshore location.
