Horizon Energy is in talks with Beijing Echo Technologies to supply rod pump controller technology for oil and gas well head monitoring and control. Horizon has pre-ordered samples of the equipment for field testing and is expecting the first shipment to arrive within the coming days. The equipment uses remote terminal unit (RTU) technology to enhance production efficiency and safety.

"There is great interest in intelligent pumping solutions in the oil and gas industry. We are very pleased to preview Echo's products as part of our efforts to maximize oilfield output," said Robert Bludorn, chairman and CEO of Horizon Energy. "Intelligent pumping systems are an investment to maintain and improve oilfield production. Some operators of small to medium-sized oilfields may be reluctant to make large capital investments in new oil wells. In such an environment, the goal is keeping existing wells consistently pumping and doing so at an optimum level."

A remote terminal unit (RTU) is the basic unit of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. By acquiring the data on site, SCADA systems can monitor and control a production system with remote and dispersed production units. Composed of several to hundreds of input/output points, RTU's can be installed near the measuring site to monitor and control field signals and industrial equipment. The RTU has two basic functions: Data acquisition and processing, and data transmission. However, most RTUs include many more advanced functions.

Echo holds more than one hundred intellectual properties in RTU and automation technology, and several trademarks, patents and software copyrights.
