Subsea UK, representing over 200 member companies, will be strengthening and expanding on links between UK subsea companies and the burgeoning Asian industry when it hosts is biennial conference, Subsea Asia, in Malaysia this week (11 June).

With the Malaysian government recently approving new incentives for exploration activity in more challenging deepwater fields, the chief executive of Subsea UK, Neil Gordon, says this focus will not only place subsea at the heart of Malaysia’s renewed growth, but open up even more opportunities for UK companies.

“Malaysia is keen to establish itself as the forefront of the Asian oil and gas market by 2017 with operators anticipating investments of almost £12 billion in the region’s subsea capabilities and hardware over the next three years.  Scottish companies are ideally placed to provide Malaysia with higher levels of technology, improved safety standards and engineering expertise - areas in which Scotland excels – as well as grown the £9bn revenue for the sector. ”

Other European highlights of the show will include Trelleborg showcasing its extended range of subsea applications including its recently re-branded portfolio of thermal insulation materials.

Located on stand 1701, the company will present its advancements in buoyancy, bend restrictors and stiffeners as well as its flowline protection solution, Uraduct. However, taking centre stage will be Trelleborg’s portfolio of thermal insulation solutions, Vikotherm; specifically its high performance R2 and S1 materials. Thermal insulation sales manager, Adrian Wood, will also deliver a presentation on Wednesday, June 11at 14:15, entitled, "Thermal insulation as part of the flow assurance sub-segment”.

"Subsea environments are becoming harsher and exploration is going deeper, resulting in a real need for higher performance solutions which are guaranteed to perform under these extremes," said Wood.
