ERHC Energy Inc., an American company that currently is focused on exploiting its assets in oil and gas reserves in Sub-Saharan Africa, has granted BGP Kenya Limited a contract to conduct a 2D seismic survey of Block 11A in northwestern Kenya.

East Africa, according to ERHC, has recently come out as “one of the world's most exciting new oil provinces.”

BGP, a top Chinese geophysical service company, was selected from a shortlist of several companies that met the conditions involved in conducting a 2D seismic survey of at least 1,000 line kilometers in the Block.

BGP has also concluded similar surveys in numerous Blocks throughout Kenya.

The ERHC 2D seismic survey in Block 11A will be based on structural mapping of potential basins, which can be located easily as a result of the company’s newly completed FTG survey of the Block. The survey searched 14,943.8 line kilometers of the Block.

Block 11A is located northwest of the Lokichar Basin where the substantial oil discoveries were drilled.  In addition to Kenya Block 11A, ERHC's oil and gas exploration interests spread across the African continent, including the Republic of Chad, the São Tomé and Príncipe Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as well as the Nigeria- São Tomé and Príncipe Joint Development Zone (JDZ).

ERHC expects the seismic survey to begin in early spring.
