CNPC and COSL complete exploratory drilling of second Zhongjiannan offshore well
CNPC has been conducting geophysical prospecting activities mainly for seismic data acquisition in this sea area based on intensive and comprehensive geological study

In accordance with the work procedures of deepwater petroleum exploration and development, a comprehensive assessment of hydrocarbon horizons is to be implemented based on the geological and analytical data collected through the drilling and exploration operation. Next phase arrangements are subject to the aforesaid comprehensive assessment.

Since 2004, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has been conducting geophysical prospecting activities mainly for seismic data acquisition in this sea area based on intensive and comprehensive geological study. As a result, the exploration targets were locked, and the well locations were identified.

In 2013, well site survey was conducted.

CNPC started the drilling of two exploratory wells of Zhongjiannan Project on 2 May  this year, and finished the drilling of the first exploratory well on 27 May. It started drilling the second well on 28 May, and the drilling of this well has now been completed.

The operation was undertaken by the drilling platform HYSY-981 run by China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL).

COSL provided turnkey services during the operation, which was smoothly carried out without being impacted by atrocious sea and weather conditions

Meanwhile, COSL's effective project management through optimising the well drilling design and improving operation efficiency guaranteed the operation completed smoothly on schedule.

As scheduled, the drilling rig HYSY981 will be mobilised to LingShui blocks in the Hainan Islands for further operation.
