Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group acquires Brazil tube company

The Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group has attained Tubexpress, a Brazilian distributor for pipes and tubes to the oil and gas industry

Van Leeuwen Group enters Brazilian pipe and tube market

The Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group, based in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, has attained Tubexpress, a Brazilian distribution company supplying pipes and tubes to the petrochemical and oil and gas industry.

The acquisition became effective January 1st, 2014.

The company proclaims that its strategy is aimed at expanding its market positions in several countries and industrial segments through their purchases. This acquisition is also intended to increase the company’s geographical footprint. 

Tubexpress, which was established in Brazil in 1990, has product knowledge and expertise in the oil and gas  market. The company has two branches in Brazil, in Osasco and São Carlos, both located in the state of São Paulo, and employs around 65 people.

The founder and current managing director of Tubexpress, Mr  Mario Zupo, will hand over his day to day responsibilities, but he will remain closely involved for the next two years, to certify a smooth transition and  expand the business.

The main focus on Tubexpress, Van Leeuwan reveals, will be mostly on the international energy market, specifically the oil and gas sector.

Peter Rietberg, chairman of the board of the Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group said, “With the takeover of Tubexpress, Van Leeuwen expands yet again its global footprint, following the recent expansion of activities in for instance Africa, Asia, and the USA.”

He added that “The acquisition provides us a platform for growth particularly in the oil and gas segment in Brazil. Local customers will profit from Van Leeuwen’s worldwide network and expertise, and we can serve our international customers in Brazil.”
