Ruhrpumpen pump models service Repsol refinery upgrades in distillation and energy efficiency

US company supplies 92 pumps for Repsol refinery expansion
The expansion of the Cartagena Industrial Refinery will increase distillation capacity to 11 mtpa or 220,000 bpd

Ruhrpumpen has provided 92 pumps to Repsol, the supplier announced on Monday, as part of a USD 4.4bn project for the expansion of the Cartagena Industrial Refinery in Spain aimed at increasing distillation capacity and decreasing the country’s fuel imports.

The pumps were manufactured at Ruhrpumpen’s plant in Tulsa, US. The work scope included different vertical and horizontal models mostly constructed according to the API norm, the company said.

The expansion of the Cartagena Industrial Refinery will increase distillation capacity from 5 million tons per annum (mtpa) to 11 mtpa, which is 220,000 barrels per day.

The refinery is a valuable port for the supply of fuel. With its expansion, Spain will decrease the importation of diesel and kerosene by 34.5 per cent, saving USD 400m annually.

The refinery is now one of the most efficient in Europe, producing less heavy products and more modern specification automotive fuels.
