The drilling project to develop the Ogna and Carlsberg fields is set to commence in 2013

A UK oil and gas engineering services firm on Monday announced it will provide its wellhead equipment to a Norwegian oil and gas operator for exploration drilling in Norway.

Aberdeen-based Plexus Holdings PLC will supply Lundin Norway AS with its high pressure high temperature POS-GRIP friction technology, as part of a GBP 2m contract hashed between both firms, the UK company said in a press release.

The order will serve a two well exploration drilling programme which will utilise Plexus’ POS-GRIP HP/HT 18-3/4” 15,000 psi HPHT wellhead equipment for exploration purposes at a variety of pressures.

The first well, 8/5-1 Ogna, will commence drilling in January 2013.  The second, 7/4-3 Carlsberg, will be drilled after Ogna. Revenues are expected to commence in January 2013, Plexus also said.

The initial application of POS-GRIP technology in the oil and gas industry was through the introduction of an adjustable rental wellhead system for jack-up exploration drilling, Plexus said. The company is currently in the process of developing POS-GRIP for use in more demanding applications and plans to develop the technology for environments of up to 30,000 psi and approximately 232°C.

The project is set to begin immediately after the completion of the Skagen well operated by Lotos Exploration and Production Norge AS, which is also being supplied with Plexus’ POS-GRIP wellhead equipment, Plexus said.
