A global provider of marine acquisition services to the oil and gas industry has notified the owner of one of the multipurpose (M/V) seismic vessels it operates that it will exercise the option to purchase the vessel and related equipment.

The vessel and equipment will be acquired for USD 6.5m and delivered at the end of the lease term 31 August 2014 against settlement of the purchase price, SeaBird Exploration said in a written statement.

The M/V Hawk Explorer joined the fleet for operation in October 2006 after being converted from a trawler to a seismic vessel. The vessel is equipped for long offset 2D data acquisition and is capable of large arrays, optimising up to four gun strings.

The Hawk Explorer has conducted several 2D seismic surveys offshore Brazil, including more than 7,500 km of 2D data in Pelotas, 4,200 km in Portiguar and 21,000 km north of the Amazon. All of these programmes are being shot with ultra-long offset cable and very large sources, a signature style of SeaBird.
