Petrobras creates program to assess potential and use of natural gas

Petrobras unveils onshore gas program
PRON-GAS will assess natural gas potential in Brazil's onshore sedimentary basins and estimate the cost to use this gas in an integrated energy system

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has announced it will set up the Onshore Natural Gas Program (PRON-GAS), a program focused on the "exploration, production and monetization" of natural gas from both conventional and non-conventional reservoirs where upstream technologies will be applied.

PRON-GAS will assess natural gas potential in Brazil's onshore sedimentary basins and estimate the cost to use this gas in an integrated energy system involving thermoelectric power generation located near the transmission lines and the complimentary production of nitrogen fertilizers to supply the Brazilian agribusiness, the state-run oil major said in a press release.

The inititative will use technologies already in use in onshore natural gas production and will draw on Petrobras' experience to meet is objectives, mainly in exploration and production and gas and energy.
