Pemex hires Chinese rig
Another 3000HP module rig is slated for operation in the country once construction is completed

Mexican oil giant Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has signed a long-term cooperation contract with China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL), a Chinese oilfield services company, for a module rig to operate in the country, COSL announced on Tuesday.

The 2000HP module rig, COSL4, will have an operation period of over 1,700 days at higher contract day rates.

The contract follows Mexico’s recent approval of an energy reform which makes it easier for foreign companies to invest in the country and is in line with the company’s plans to expand further into the Gulf of Mexico.

COSL currently operates and manages 4 module rigs and 3 jack-up drilling rigs in Mexico. Another 3000HP module rig is slated for operation in the country once construction is completed, according to COSL.
