Petrobras’ P-55 platform on Tuesday began operations in the Roncador field in the Campos Basin, in what the company considers a “strategic project” in its 2013-2017 business plan.

P-55 is part of Roncador’s Module 3 project. The semi-submersible unit will be installed at a water depth of 1,800 meters and connected to 17 wells. Oil and natural gas will be transported from the platform via submarine pipelines to the Campos Basin’s oil and gas offloading system.

Weighing 52,000 tonnes and with 94 m x 94 m x 43 m hull dimensions, P-55 is the biggest semi-submersible platform ever built in Brazil and one of the biggest of its kind worldwide. It has the capacity to process 180,000 barrels per day of oil and compress 6,000,000 cubic meters per day of natural gas.

The new unit will operate alongside platforms P-52 and P-54, already installed in Roncador field, and with platform P-62, which is moving toward its location in Module IV of the field.
