ExxonMobil Marine Fuels & Lubricants has launched the latest addition to its range of cylinder oil, Mobilgard 5100, specially designed to mitigate the effects of cold corrosion in new design two-stroke marine engines operating on heavy fuel oil.

Mobilgard 5100 is a 100 BN cylinder oil designed to address the problem of cold corrosion which occurs when the engine’s cylinders operate at conditions below the acid dew point, creating the potential to cause significant liner wear.

“Mobilgard 5100 delivers exceptional acid neutralisation performance, deposit control and oxidation stability to help mitigate cold corrosion, optimise feed rates and, ultimately, control costs,” said Aaron Cobb, director, ExxonMobil Marine Fuels & Lubricants.

The introduction of Mobilgard 5100 follows ExxonMobil’s recent upgrade of its comprehensive two-stroke engine condition monitoring programme, MobilGard Cylinder Condition Monitoring (CCM), which uses scrape down oil analysis to support marine operators to enhance protection and reduce cost in new or modified engines.
