BP’s call for a retrial over the causes of the 2010 Macondo oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico should be rejected, according to Halliburton

BP could potentially be forced to pay out more than USD 18bn in pollution fines.

“BP itself introduced the very testimony that it now claims was excluded and upon which the court relied to partially support its casing-breach findings,” said Halliburton lawyers said in a filing at the New Orleans federal court last week.

Halliburton commented that BP “mischaracterises” the record of a 2013 trial over the spill “to remedy its own failed trial tactics.”

Halliburton was the cementing subcontractor at the blown-out well.

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill saw over four million barrels of crude oil gush into the sea.

BP could potentially be forced to pay out more than USD 18bn in pollution fines.
