LyondellBasell nets Petronas RAPID polypropylene process technology contract in Malaysia
RAPID is said to be the largest liquid-based green-field downstream in Malaysia and forms part of Petronas' Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) development, which is valued at USD 27bn

The polypropylene unit is being constructed at PRPC's Integrated Development (RAPID) complex.

"Our selection of both the Spherizone and Spheripol process technologies will provide Petronas with a wide range of premium-quality and differentiated PP products highly suited to the needs of international markets," said Dutuk Nur Iskandar Samad, PRPC RAPID project petrochemical deputy project director.

The Spherizone technology is said to offer high-performance PP and novel polyolefinic resins.

Spheripol is designed for the production of homopolymer, random and heterophasic copolymers.

"LyondellBasell is pleased to be selected by Petronas as its technology provider for the development of their polypropylene business," said Bob Patel LyondellBasell olefins and polyolefins technology Europe, Asia, International executive vice-president.

LyondellBasell licenses PP and polyethylene (PE) technologies with more than 250 polyolefin process licenses.

The company's portfolio of polyolefin technologies and associated technical services include Metocene PP, Lupotech, Hostalen and Spherilene technologies.

RAPID is said to be the largest liquid-based green-field downstream in Malaysia and forms part of Petronas' Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) development, which is valued at USD 27bn.

PIC features the Pengerang co-generation plant, re-gasification terminal II, an air separation unit, a raw water supply project, crude and product tanks, central and shared utilities and facilities.

Last month, Yokogawa Kontrol (Malaysia) completed the front-end engineering and design for the RAPID project.
