Orga recommends the offshore industry should install the new helideck lighting system

25th February 2014
Orga, the Netherlands –headquartered company that provides solutions which contribute to enhanced safety levels in the offshore, onshore and aviation industry, will start 2014 with a second installation of the helideck lighting system on its Prospector 1, jack-up rig in Invergordon, Scotland.

The company’s new Circle-H helideck touchdown and positioning lighting system was created in association with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) and is designed to enhance visibility for approaching pilots in all types of weather conditions.

The lighting system has demonstrated the ability to improve offshore helicopter safety, which has persuaded the UK CAA to make Circle-H mandatory on all platforms in UK waters and has given the industry until 2018 to modify the lighting on all offshore helidecks.

Daniel Powell, Orga’s product group manager, emphasized that “The industry doesn’t have the time to wait.”

He recognised that it takes about two years for the oil and gas companies to get their budgets as well as their engineering and logistics programmes in place for such a project.

Powell added that “Four years to retrofit the new lighting on all UK offshore helidecks is not that long a time and with some operators having nearly 50 helidecks to retrofit, the roll out needs to start now.”

In addition, he recommended that since orders for Circle-H installations are already in place for 2014, Orga is “ready and we’re able to deliver and install quickly Circle-H on all platforms in the UK North Sea. Considering the 2018 deadline, operators and duty holders should take full advantage of our current position.
